It was my first time at The Normans, a beautiful 18th-century working farm on which it is set. The farm has been in the Robinson family for three generations. And, for three generations, it has been the backdrop to a number of fantastic family weddings. The owners are Oliver and Laura Robinson who are the husband-and-wife team behind The Normans wedding venue. Hosting weddings on a weekly basis Oliver & Laura are helped by a dedicated Events Manager, Sharon Sanders.
Opening in 2016 they have re-vamped and re-imagined the original farm buildings and fold yard, to create a stylish and stunning space – combining rustic charm with slick contemporary features – that is purpose-built for weddings and it really is beautiful.
The Normans comprises of four distinct areas: The Courtyard, The Ceremony Barn, The Cow Stalls and The Grain Shed.

Charlotte & Ashley’s wedding at the Normans
I met Charlotte back in 2008 when I was travelling around New Zealand & Australia. I was delighted that she got in touch about her wedding to Ashley and that she wanted me to photograph it. It was fantastic to catch up with Charlotte and her bridesmaids on the morning of the wedding. They were getting ready at a cottage just next door to the Normans. My second shooter Emil with Ashley as he arrived at this incredible venue.
The Normans is a romantic, stylish and fantastic venue which is mainly lit by candles for the ceremony. Once they tied the knot we did some small group photos and then couple portraits before the light faded. It was then time for the speeches which were fantastic.
Couples portraits at the Normans
The couples portraits were just outside the venue on the country road which is a great place for photos and sunset happens right there as well. We were lucky to get outside at all today because the Yorkshire weather was against us, it was freezing and windy – but the bride and groom were awesome and were happy to go outside!
Evening party at the Normans
The evening party was brilliant and I decided to join Charlotte & Ashley for a few beers and stayed at a hotel a couple of miles away. Cake cut was followed by the first dance and then it was time for everyone to get on the dance floor. Soon after I put my cameras down and had a few gins before deciding I would get them back out as the party was just to good!
Charlotte and Ashley thank you so much for having me along to tell your wedding story. It was an incredible wedding and it was lovely to see you again!
